MY LANGUAGE; MY PRIDE...

Nigeria is a country with diverse cultures and traditions; each tribe with its own unique language and way of life makes Nigeria a unique nation. Language is one of the things that make us unique in our own way, which has made Nigeria stand out among many African nations because of the beauty in our cultures and traditions though these diverse languages are not being cherished or appreciated by the owners. Our heritage is being eroded day after day due to our negligence.

I am a Yoruba boy from Kwara state who loves his language so much; I was Yoruba, I am Yoruba and will forever be Yoruba. Though kwara is under the North Central geo-political zone in Nigeria but it is basically dominated by Yorubas.

It is an unarguable fact that many Nigerians finds it difficult to speak their native language, basically because we have all being colonised and we continue to colonise ourselves. It is generally believed that you must be fluent in English, but why can't you also be fluent in your native language?

The Whites derives joy in their Language and most of them even wish to learn our languages whenever they find themselves among Nigerians but we are the ones who are always ashamed of our language. We have all fall short in this aspect but I think it is high time we rise to this situation and make amends.

Be proud of who you are, learn proverbs and wise sayings in your native language, know things about your culture and stop the continuous colonisation of your mind, show the world that you can always be you and not someone else.

Are you a Yoruba, an Hausa, an Igbo man, idoma, igala or what are view, know that nothing can change that, no matter how fluent or good you are with english , it does not make you a white man or woman.

Be proud of your language, be proud of your culture and be proud of Nigeria; you can only be a Nigerian so why can't you just be the best. My Language is my Pride.
