Interview Series (Episode 9)
Hi, our esteemed readers and followers. Welcome to another episode of Chat With temidada, we are always glad to have you. Join me as I welcome our guest.
Please can I meet you?
Soul Pee: My name is Solomon Peter Gambo. I am also known as Soulpee.
I am a singer, songwriter, recording artiste and an Architect. I am an indigene of Bauchi state but I reside in Jos. I Love Jesus and good music. I am the last child from the family of six (4 gentlemen and 2 ladies).
My Dad is a Pastor, though retired from administrative duties.
Due to my Dad's itinerant ministry, I attended different schools, most especially during my primary education. But I got my primary leaving certificate from ECWA Nursery and Primary School Television Kaduna in 2007.
Then I was admitted into Boys Secondary School Gindiri, Plateau state, where I graduated in 2013.
The same year I was admitted into University of Jos to study Architecture, and I graduated with class of 2019.
I am currently serving in Port Harcourt, Rivers state.
You said you are a music recording artiste; what type of music do you do?
Soul Pee: My music is an alternative sound. A fusion of the Arewa (northern) flavour with contemporary sound.
I sing for JESUS. Taking the message of Truth, Love and Redemption through my sound.
You studied Architecture and chose to do music; Can we know why?
Soul Pee: I grew up loving good sound. As a Preacher's kid, there's this privilege of having access to the church and musical instruments. It gradually became a passion for me.
Though I read Architecture, music is more of a calling for me. It gives me access to a greater audience teaching them about Christ and His love.
I can do that with Architecture too, but music gives a wider range.
I just want to reach out to the lost, broken and weak be it through Architecture or Music.
Let us talk about your recent single titled "Dear Judith". What is the inspiration behind the song?
Soul Pee: Ooo Dear Judith.
I was inspired by the HOLY SPIRIT.
I cannot really explain how I got the song, but I wrote the whole song in less than 8hours. That's weird for me, because I love taking my time to write my songs but this time, it came all together, I just knew it is from a source.
I had friends that were like Judith at a time, and it has been a burden in my heart to reach out to them, though I never knew it will be via a song, but God answered the prayer by giving me a song.
Can you tell us what "Dear Judith" is all about?
Soul Pee: Dear Judith is a fictional story of a girl whose parents are clergy. She met a guy she loves, but got pregnant in the relationship, and now she's left with the choice to either keep the pregnancy or abort it. She called me as a friend in need of help and counsel, so I explained how Jesus is interested in her as well as the baby, and that what happened is really not an accident.
I know that the song adresses abortion. Why did you decide to sing about abortion?
Soul Pee: It is because of the sanctity of Life.
We are all made by God and for God. So every human has the right to life.
Sometimes I sit to wonder what if my mum had aborted me? Or my mentors or people I look up to? What would have happened to me? So why will I want to abort a life I can't tell it's future?
Those thoughts drove me to what I am doing, knowing that God wants us to live and achieve his purpose on earth, it doesn't matter the way and manner we came, He is interested in every bit of the process.
I thought the world and my generation should know that. So, that has always been the drive.
Have you had any personal experience of such before?
Soul Pee: From me, NO. But, some of my friends have experienced it, just as I mentioned earlier.
As regards your message to people; what would be your advice to parents in this regard?
Soul Pee: I understand how difficult it is for Parents. Raising a child with good morals and somehow you get shocked by the outcome.
My advice always is, we can't change the past but sure we can change the future. We can't correct a mistake or error by doing another one. It's hard and difficult but that's when we should trust God and give love to our daughters. Bring them home and teach them what love is and how God can change the story to something beautiful.
What is your advice to people who are in this situation already?
Soul Pee: When there is Life there is Hope. The strength of our Faith is in Hope. As long as you are breathing, that means there's hope to change things around. Your story is a weapon. Sometimes why we pass through fire is for those coming after us not to pass through the same. Reach out to young girls growing up, and always know that Christ died for all of us and not some of us. There's forgiveness at the cross, victory, mercy, redemption and recovery. It is all found in Jesus.
Is there any other song you are working on or we should expect an album?
Soul Pee: I have been working on an album ''CHAINS AND GLORY'' for the past two years. I believe when I'm instructed I'll let it out. There are also a lot of unreleased songs, whenever I get the instructions I'll let them out.
What is your advice to other music artists in the country, in using their songs to address social issues?
Soul Pee: I tell friends to always choose impact over fame. Music is a strong tool to reach the mind of your listeners. If we can harness all and use it positively, we can change the world.
So let's focus, trust God and build content that will stir a change and cause revival on earth.
Please how can the readers get access to Dear Judith?
Soul Pee: It's on different platforms:
